Oscar turned three last month. It's hard to believe how quickly time flies, wasn't he just a fresh babe in my arms not long ago? This year, like always, we asked him what he'd like his birthday theme to be. He flip-flopped a little between superheroes and Star Wars but eventually settled on Rescue Bots - entry level Transformers, as Steve would say.
We wanted to keep things relatively simple. For decorations, I did a gear garland and a balloon garland in primary colours associated with the Rescue Bots. For the gear garland, I drew gears of different sizes and shapes out on construction paper and cut a stack at a time with an exactor knife. For the balloon garlands, we made a simple logo stencil (you can easily find a template on google) and used a sharpie to colour the logo onto the already blown up balloons.
We had a simple homemade brownie cake with chocolate ganache - topped with "happy birthday" candles (which you can see melted in the most spectacular fashion) and two small Rescue Bots (they come in little bags - like the lego figurines). He loved it and often says when referring to those rescue bots, "you mean the ones on my cake?".
Oscar was thrilled with his Rescue Bots party - we would know, that balloon garland is still hanging in our living room because he insisted on keeping it there! We had so much fun celebrating this sweet, funny, cheeky boy of ours.
Happy three trips around the sun, baby boy. We love you more than words can say.
